Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI (RTK-XI), aka Sangokushi 11, is 11th version in KOEI’s famous Romance of the Three Kingdoms series. The game was released for the PC on 17 March 2006 in Japan, and Traditional Chinese version later on 27 July in Taiwan. A Japanese PlayStation 2 version was on 28 September 2006.
A North American PlayStation 2 version was published on 6 February 2007. A Wii version was published on 21 March 2007 for the Japan market at a premium price of 9800 yen.
Premium Edition includes a walkthrough, tactical map, 4 cards illustrated by Tsuyoshi Nagano, orchestra soundtrack CD. Chinese version of the Premium Edition and includes a map to describe.
An official German version for the PC was announced on 23 April 2008, in North America on 29 July. However, the release date was delayed until 9 September 2008. It is an expansion pack for the PC version, but was not in the English version is only for the East. This was the restoration of KOEI a PC version of Romance of Three Kingdoms for the English market, which has not happened since the 30th November 1995 with the U.S. publication of the “Romance of the Three Kingdoms IV: Wall of Fire”.
Gameplay mainly revolves around managing numerical statistics, each representing an attribute of a city or character. For example, a city will have statistics indicating the amount of food stored within its walls, its vulnerability to disasters such as floods and earthquakes, how content the people are, and so forth. Characters have statistics to reflect his/her fighting prowess, intelligence and loyalty to his/her ruler among other attributes. Most players will spend more time on improving these statistics than waging war against neighboring territories, as the artificial intelligence of the other rulers tends to be peaceful unless the player attacks them first, or unless they have reached a point of the story where war must break out. Even during such situations, rampant warfare is discouraged, particularly during winter.
